Manchester United set to make €75m bid for Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United are set to make an offer of cash plus David de Gea for Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos, according to Cope.es in Spain.

Cadena Cope’s Manola Lama says Man United’s total offer will be worth €75m which works out at approximately a €40m (£28m) cash bid for Ramos when you take into account De Gea’s estimated valuation of €35m.

Lama goes on to say Ramos would earn €55m over five years at the club and insists his relationship with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is now completely beyond repair.

The numbers are a little confusing at this stage given that De Gea’s valuation is extremely hard to pinpoint but it would be a very big push for Ramos if this bid went in.

Although the idea of paying €40m plus De Gea for Ramos is way overpriced when taken at face value, an interesting point was raised to us on Twitter last night when we were discussing the deal.

It’s a fair point to make and in a market where elite centre-backs are a rare commodity, United would do very well to sign one of the world’s best in Ramos.

United have dug their heels in with De Gea’s protracted move to Madrid and interest in Ramos has sparked a huge story which is developing quickly.

Could United really be about to sign one of the world’s best centre-backs for a combined fee of €75m? Reports in Spain certainly seem to think so.
