In an ideal world, Manchester United would sign both Nicolas Otamendi and Sergio Ramos to sure up their defence ahead of an assault on the Premier League title next term.
Otamendi enjoyed a fantastic campaign for Valencia in La Liga last season while Ramos is widely regarded to be one of the best centre-backs in the world having won numerous trophies with Real Madrid and over 100 caps for Spain.
However, we don’t live in a perfect world and Man United may well drop their interest in one if they sign the other due to the astronomical transfer fees said to be involved.
We asked our Twitter followers for their thoughts on who they would sign if they had to choose between the two:
@PeoplesPerson_ Ramos every day. He's an elite defender and has been consistently for 10 years. Otamendi excellent but only for one year

@PeoplesPerson_ Otamendi is younger, better in long term and pals with Di Maria and Rojo

@PeoplesPerson_ Ramos. Granted he's older but he's a real leader and arguably the most complete CB around. Wouldn't mind both though ?

Of course, either player would be a fantastic addition should they come in.
Perhaps Ramos is the more experienced of the two due to his triumphs in the Champions League and at international level, but Otamendi is no slouch.
The hope for United fans is that the uncertainty surrounding the pair is resolved soon. Louis van Gaal’s side need to hit the ground running next season and getting new faces in early will help them achieve that.
