Just when you think rumours linking Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan with a move to Manchester United had died down, it rears its ugly head once again.
Gaitan’s agent José Irribarren has gone as far as to confirm to Portuguese radio station Antena One that negotiations with Man United had taken place and the only thing left to do was wait for an answer from United.
The 27-year-old has been linked with United for as long as any fan will care to remember but Irribarren has done his best to once again make sure the rumours don’t get buried and forgotten about.
“Everything can happen,” he said.
“Negotiations exists, but we’re waiting for an answer from the leader of Man United.”
Will the Gaitan rumours ever end? Probably not, but Irribarren is certainly making a bold claim this time by insisting negotiations had taken place.
There was once a time where the signing of Gaitan would have made sense for United when our attacking midfield was desperately weak but that ship has now sailed.
In fact, it’s now a position where United are actually spoilt for choice and that was before Memphis Depay was even thrown into the mix, given his tendency to drift inside.
In ten years time, United will probably still be linked with a move for Gaitan but unless the moon and stars align, will he ever secure a move to Old Trafford?
