Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has phoned Sergio Ramos to discuss his future, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
Ramos, 29, has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu after it emerged that he is unhappy in the Spanish capital.
Marca report that Perez tried to diffuse the situation with a phone call. However, the Madrid vice-captain still feels disappointed and let down by the club and reiterated his desire to leave.
It is no secret that Man United are interested in the defender, with reports suggesting that a bid has already been rejected.
Ramos would be a huge acquisition for United. As an experienced centre-back with an eye for goal, he could be exactly what United need at the back to shore up what was a shaky defence last season. A real leader, Ramos can galvanise the rest of the squad as well.
The former Sevilla man reportedly grew unhappy after Madrid failed to protect him when Barcelona presidential candidate Jordi Majo claimed he was ‘offered’ Ramos by an intermediary.
Perez will not be happy to lose his star defender, even if it meant that David De Gea would move the other way. Bayern Munich manager, Pep Guardiola, feels that Perez “has the key to everything” regarding the transfer.
If Ramos does eventually choose to leave Real Madrid, United should make sure they do whatever they can to bring the Spaniard to Old Trafford. A proven winner, Ramos would bring enough to the squad to make them title challengers once more.
