Real Madrid have set an asking price of €90m for Manchester United target Sergio Ramos, according to AS.
Ramos has suffered a breakdown in his relationship with Madrid’s hierarchy having failed to negotiate a new contract at the Spanish club.
Man United are looking to capitalise on the uncertainty and they had an opening offer for the player believed to be in the region of €50m rejected this week.
United are said to be prepared to improve their offer to €70m. Both the club and Ramos want to keep any deal separate from the possible transfer of David de Gea, who has been strongly linked with a move to Madrid.
If United are to get Ramos, then it looks likely that they will have to surpass the £50m fee Paris Saint-German paid Chelsea for David Luiz last year.
Some fans may question whether Ramos is worth it at 29-years-old but there is no doubt that he can keep up his performance levels for years to come.
Supporters only need to look as far as John Terry, who had a superb campaign for Chelsea last term at the age of 34. In any case, it looks like the Ramos saga will rumble on for a while yet.
