Angel di Maria set for special strengthening program at Manchester United

Angel di Maria is set for a special strengthening program in order to help him adapt further to the rigours of the Premier League.

The Argentinian winger, nicknamed “Fideo” which means “Noodle” in Spanish, struggled in his debut season for Manchester United and coaches at the club believe that more time in the gym might help the winger to inflict himself on games more next season.

The Times‘ James Ducker says the club were┬áconcerned with how easily Di Maria was thrown off the ball last season and are adopting a similar approach to how they handled Cristiano Ronaldo, Patrice Evra and David de Gea.

That trio mentioned all struggled to adapt physically to the Premier League and were helped by doing extra work in the gym in order to add much needed bulk to their frames. The three went on to have excellent careers at Old Trafford and the same is expected from Di Maria.

He’s enjoying a strong Copa America campaign with Argentina in the moment which is putting him in good stead for the start of the season in August and should be filling him with the confidence he so badly lacked in the second half of his debut year at United.
