Phil Jones has signed a new contract with Manchester United which will keep him at the club until at least 2019, with an option to extend for a further year.
There have been plenty of doubters over Jones’ long-term future at the club because he hasn’t progressed as much as anyone would have hoped in the four years he has been a United player.
However, with age on his side, he does still have plenty of time left to knuckle down and improve but it is now on his own shoulders to make that happen next season.

Jones arrived at United with real promise but has so far failed to build on that at Old Trafford.
First and foremost, he needs to improve his own decision making and if he can do that, there’s every chance he can grow into the defender who Sir Alex Ferguson felt he could be when he signed him from Blackburn Rovers.
