Manchester United table Thomas Muller bid – report

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United have tabled a big money bid for Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller, according to reports in Germany.

There had been rumours linking Muller with a move to Old Trafford earlier on this year but these were dismissed as unrealistic.

However, SPORT BILD journalist Christian Falk as well as German football expert Raphael Honigstein are now reporting that United have made an offer for the player. The package is said to be worth a total of €160m, which includes both the transfer fee and wages.

According to the duo, United’s pursuit of Bastian Schweinsteiger has been a sideshow to a move for Muller:

Bayern have insisted that the 25-year-old is not for sale but it is interesting to see United show their hand.

The club must have done their research before tabling the bid so perhaps there is something in the rumours.

Despite this, it is hard to see Muller leave the Allianz Arena as he is Bayern through and through. The German side did just sign Douglas Costa from Shakhtar Donetsk but he is seen as long-term cover for Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery rather than a replacement for Muller.
