Real Madrid eye Medhi Benatia as Sergio Ramos replacement – report

by Sam Koster

Real Madrid are eyeing Medhi Benatia as a potential replacement for Sergio Ramos, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Ramos’s future has come under intense speculation in recent days, with the World Cup winner reportedly declaring he is unhappy with life in Madrid and that he is eager to secure a move to Manchester United.

Man United have reportedly lodged a £28m bid for the 29-year-old but this is likely to be rejected by Los Blancos, with the Madrid hierarchy valuing Ramos at a staggering €100m.

Rumoured to be one of United’s transfer targets last summer, fans are familiar with Benatia. Unfortunately, he instead opted to join Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich side instead.

The Moroccan has experienced a mixed season with the Bavarians, with form and injuries preventing him from cementing a starting role in the side.

If rumours are to be believed and Madrid are already searching for Ramos’ successor, then supporters may just begin to believe that a deal for him could be close. Most United fans are in agreement that Ramos is one of the best central defenders in world football.

However, others believe that at 29-years old, the Spanish international does not represent value for money. In any case, if Ramos does join United it will be a huge transfer for van Gaal’s side. The experience and effect it could have on the dressing room might just prove to be invaluable next term.
