New Real Madrid signing Danilo has urged the club to keep hold of ‘historic players’ Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas.
Ramos has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United, who could attempt to use the Spaniard to their advantage while in negotiations with Madrid for goalkeeper David De Gea.
Rumours in Spain have suggested that Ramos has fallen out with the Madrid hierarchy over a new contract at the club. Meanwhile, Casillas is said to be unwilling to relinquish his no.1 spot to De Gea next season.
Danilo, who joined the La Liga side from FC Porto this summer, wants the club to rethink their plans when it comes to the future of the pair.
“They’re historic players at the club, the sort of figures that you can lean on when times are tough. They’re extremely important for the club, whatever the situation,” he said.
“I’m not on the inside, so I don’t know what’s going on or what their situation is. But speaking from the outside, and with all due respect, as a new Real Madrid player I’d like them to stay.”
Both Ramos and Casillas have a wealth of experience at the very highest level and they would represent significant losses for Madrid if they were to leave.
Madrid’s pain might be United’s gain as Ramos would provide a huge injection of quality at the back. His arrival would certainly soften the blow if De Gea went the other way.
