Sergio Ramos will only leave Real Madrid for Manchester United, according to the Spanish side’s former president Ramon Calderon.
Ramos has reportedly told Madrid that he wants to leave following a breakdown in his relationship with the club’s hierarchy.
Man United are said to have bid £28.6m for the central defender and Calderon believes that the player is ready to move but only to the Premier League and specifically to Old Trafford.
“I know Sergio has told the general manager to listen to offers they get from Manchester United. He only wants to go to United,” he said.
“Things are in a very bad situation. As time has gone on, things have not only not improved, they have got worse.
“Now it is not a question of money. It is a lack of affection the player is feeling from Real Madrid.”
The 29-year-old might not have any sell-on value and he may take some time to adapt to the Premier League but there is little doubt that he would become United’s best defender if they did manage to sign him.
Ramos has won every top club and international competition there is to win and has also represented his country 128 times. There is still a belief amongst United fans that Ramos is angling for a new deal at Madrid but the further this situation drags on, the further both club and player will have to back track in order to reconcile their differences.
