Diego Forlan strongly believes Manchester United need to stick by Angel Di Maria and will get the best out of him soon enough.
Forlan, 36, was another South American who struggled at United, scoring only ten goals in his 63 appearances. However, he feels that Di Maria is worth sticking with.
After a difficult first season in England, Di Maria has pledged his future to United and will be looking to improve on last year. Forlan seems to think that Di Maria can still be a success for United in years to come.
“Great coaches and great players don’t always get on and not every player fits into rigid systems, but Di Maria is worth persisting with.” he told the National.
“Players are not robots and if there’s something wrong then their coaches need to find out what the problem is. Di Maria is worth the effort. He offers something different from almost every other player.”
The former United man definitely feels that Di Maria can come good at the club. Having been through struggles at United himself, Forlan knows exactly what is needed to bounce back at the biggest club in the world.
He added: “Real Madrid really missed his driving runs last season. He is quick, he makes assists and he can also do the hardest thing in football — beat a player one-on-one.
“United will regret it if he leaves. He should be given another season to prove himself and United should try to understand him better and trust him.
After an inconsistent first year, Di Maria will be hoping to improve and set the league alight, as he did when he first joined United. If the club can get Di Maria fit and firing again, there is no reason why United can’t challenge for all competitions.
