Manchester United’s pursuit of a new right-back has now seen them linked with Torino’s Matteo Darmian.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Torino are willing to sell Darmian for €20m and Man United have entered the race to sign him. Di Marzio also says Torino’s president Cairo and his agent have discussed this during the week.
Darmian, 25, is very highly rated and widely considered to be one of Serie’s A best right-backs. His performances for Torino saw him break into the Italy side as well.
Louis van Gaal has a problem at right-back which he has to remedy next year. Antonio Valencia is not a natural right-back and Rafael da Silva remained out of favour for the whole season, so it is widely expected Van Gaal will bring in a new right-back this summer.
Two potential targets have already been scrapped from the list as Nathaniel Clyne joined Liverpool and Dani Alves signed a new contract with Barcelona, but Darmian is available for the right price.
