Manchester United’s move for Torino defender Matteo Darmian has accelerated very quickly during this week.
From initial reports by Sky Italia confirming Man United’s interest, only a few days later Gianluca Di Marzio has said an agreement is already in place with Darmian and the last step is for United to OK a deal worth €18m plus €2m in bonuses.
When it comes to transfers with United these days, it seems that the British press are always playing catch up unless it is a player from the Premier League who is moving (E.G. Luke Shaw).
Deals such as Ander Herrera and Radamel Falcao happened very quickly and without the British press really knowing much about them until they were on their doorstep.
So, Di Marzio is leading the reporting on this deal for Darmian and has made it clear that United are very close to signing the Italian right-back.
It’s a position which United struggled with last season thanks to Rafael’s injuries and Antonio Valencia‘s inability to offer anything in attack any more.
Combined on the right hand side with Mata and Herrera, Darmian could become part of an electric trio which gives United a real threat on the right as well as the left through Shaw, Depay and Di Maria.
