Manchester United appear to have stepped up their interest in reported transfer targets in recent days and fans have been getting excited about what the starting XI could look like next season.
United are crying out for some defensive restructuring this summer and they look close to making the first step with the signing of Darmian. The Italian is more than capable going forward but the discipline he displays at the back will also please Louis van Gaal.
Meanwhile, Schneiderlin has been an unheralded star of the Premier League for the last two seasons and he continues to improve. He would be an excellent long-term replacement for Michael Carrick and can act defensively while providing a box-to-box element if necessary.
Finally, the signing of Memphis Depay will enhance United’s dynamism going forward and could lead to the unleashing of Angel di Maria in a more central, fluid role than he has previously played under van Gaal.
This starting XI has a far more balanced look than the one United often put out last season. There is an nice blend of pace and creativity with a solid foundation from the back once a central defender is brought in.
Barring a freak injury crisis like last term, United are looking a better bet to challenge for domestic honours while also being competitive in the Champions League.
