Andres Iniesta does not believe that Sergio Ramos will be allowed to leave Real Madrid.
The Spanish defender has been linked with a move to Manchester United for the last couple of weeks and he is reportedly keen on leaving the Bernabeu.
There were rumours that Man United had tabled a bid of £28.6m for the 29-year-old and tongues have been wagging amongst the club’s fanbase as a result.
However, his Barcelona rival and international teammate, Iniesta, told AS that he didn’t foresee Ramos being allowed to leave Real Madrid.
“I’ve always said that Sergio is one of the best centre-backs around,” he said.
“He’s already in a great team and, to be honest, I can’t see Madrid letting him leave.”
Ramos might be using United as a bargaining chip in order to get a new and improved contract from Madrid as he has two years left to run on his current deal.
It was wise for United to explore the possibility of landing Ramos but with the likes of Iniesta saying this along with no further concrete news coming from the situation, they should perhaps look elsewhere for fear of putting all their eggs in one basket. Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi is still available but he will not be all summer and it is in Louis van Gaal‘s best interest to land a dominant centre-half before the start of the Premier League season in August.
