The 25-year-old Netherlands international joined Man United for a fee of £13.8m last summer and enjoyed an impressive season under mentor Louis van Gaal but there are no guarantees over what role he will play next year.
In addition to United’s interest in midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and Michael Carrick‘s importance to the first-team, Luke Shaw will become United’s No.1 left-back so long as he can maintain his fitness.
That leaves Blind in a bit of a predicament – what role does he then have at United?
At the start of last season, Blind played in the defensive midfield role and did very well in Carrick’s absence. When he returned from injury, he found himself at left-back when Shaw was out injured and actually put in his best performances of the season there.
However, with both positions likely to be full come the start of the season, Blind may be worrying where he fits into United’s plans.
Blind was a top signing last year as he filled in a role which United were desperately weak in but with new and improved signings, will Blind have to settle for a squad role under Van Gaal next season or is there still going to be space for him in the starting XI?
