A report in a French newspaper suggests that Angel di Maria is getting close to a deal with Paris Saint Germain.
PSG had Financial Fair Play restrictions lifted recently and were said to be considering a deal for the Argentinian winger with United’s €60 million valuation of the player being more plausible.
These reports come despite the fact Di Maria had told Louis van Gaal that he was keen to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place, so it does appear as though Le Parisien’s is wide of the mark, unless something has drastically changed since then.
There has been no official bid for the player and terms between the player and the club have yet to be established but the paper go with the line that Di Maria has “one foot” in Paris. If that’s the case, have PSG been illegally tapping up the Argentinian?
Di Maria moved to United from Madrid last summer and was apparently hurt by the fact that he was sold by the club. He struggled in his first season at United despite a blistering start but during the Copa America this summer, he reminded everyone of how good he can be when on form.
He remains one of the most electric wingers in the world and it would be shortsighted of him to jump ship before giving the Premier League a second season, just like it would be if United decided to sell him.
United are rebuilding and if they are to be successful in Europe and domestically, Di Maria will certainly be seen as central figure in their season.
