Robin van Persie is closing in on his move to Fenerbahce by undergoing a medical today in England.
Gianluca di Marzio reports that Van Persie has already agreed to join Fenerbahce and is set to fly out to Istanbul after successfully completing his medical.
The 31-year-old is set to sign a three year deal with Fenerbahce which will guarantee his future up until the age of 34 and that’s certainly more than he would have got if he had remained at Old Trafford.
United fans will be sad to see Van Persie go in that he will leave behind some great memories from his debut season at the club but everybody is well aware it is the right time for the Dutchman to move onto pastures new.
One significant aspect of his exit from United would be that it disparages the myth of him being Louis van Gaal‘s golden boy.
Last season, there was plenty of criticism thrown at United’s boss from fans who felt he pandered to Van Persie too often. Less than 12 months later, he is being sold.
Van Gaal needs to be ruthless and avoid sentiment with this squad if United are to truly compete on all fronts again and it looks like he is doing exactly that this summer.
