The current United squad is imbalanced and the rumoured departure of Robin van Persie will only emphasise this further.
We asked our Twitter followers for their thoughts on what more United need to do to make this a successful transfer window:
@PeoplesPerson_ Schneiderlin,Otamendi and if possible a striker who can replace RVP will make our season 2015-16 bang!

@PeoplesPerson_ Otamendi, Schweinsteiger and a new CF is the minimum.

@peoplesperson_ Otamendi, Schneiderlin & Schweinsteiger. Quality & stability at the back, in MF and attack. Roll on

@PeoplesPerson_ At least 1 CB, 2 CMs, GK if De Gea leaves and a backup striker, Berahino, Sakho quality.

@PeoplesPerson_ 1 CB, 1 ST, 2 CMs and to be more precise, Lloris as De Gea's replacement.

Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson will be left as United’s only recognised strikers if van Persie leaves so there is no doubt that they will need someone else to share the workload next term.
Van Gaal will also be keen to beef up his midfield as he often had to ask Rooney to play there last season. Bastian Schweinsteiger has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, as has Morgan Schneiderlin.
Finally, United need a dominant centre-half. Sergio Ramos would be a superb addition but van Gaal may turn to Nicolas Otamendi as an alternative.
