Manchester United youngsters set for pre-season opportunities

Louis van Gaal looks to have stayed true to his promise of promoting youngsters ahead of the pre-season tour as multiple academy players have been involved in first-team training this week.

One player who will be getting a lot of attention is 16-year-old Callum Gribbin. The midfielder made a bit of a name for himself last season with an excellent performance in the FA Youth Cup game against Hull City that was at Old Trafford, as it was televised on MUTV.

Obviously he has caught the eye of Van Gaal and we understand he is in line to go on the pre-season tour, which is fantastic news for him at such a young age.

RoShaun Williams has also trained with the first-team too. For those who haven’t watched him, Williams is a powerful centre-back who was a rock for the U18s alongside captain Axel Tuanzebe.

At one point, the U18s played over nine hours of football without conceding last season and Williams played a central role in that.

There are also a few U21s who have trained this week as well such as defender Donald Love, midfielder James Weir and midfielder Sean Goss.

The pre-season squad will likely be announced over the weekend and if any of these lads earn a spot on the trip, it will be a major development step in their young careers.

Youth has always been at the core of United’s history and although there are some concerns about the current state of it in comparison to the teams around us, there’s still plenty of reason to be excited about potentially seeing some of them take part in the US Tour.
