Matteo Darmian free to fly to Manchester after Torino president signs contract

by Sam Peoples

Everything is now in place for Matteo Darmian to complete his move to Manchester United.

Gianluca Di Marzio, who you will know has been at the forefront of reporting the Darmian deal, says Torino’s president has signed the contract which confirms the 25-year-old is now free to travel to Manchester.

Man United are expected to countersign the deal and Darmian will fly to Manchester in the morning on a private jet. When he lands, he’ll go straight to the club where he can undergo his medical which would be the final step before finally completing his move.

It’s amazing how quickly this transfer has escalated. What was just a rumour merely 72 hours ago is now on the verge of officially being a done deal and that’s exactly how you want United to handle their transfer business: behind closed doors.

The signing of Darmian is an extremely smart signing because it fills a glaring hole in the squad and brings in a player to Premier League for good value at €18m plus €2m in bonuses.

All in all, it’s a deal which suits both clubs. The deal is record breaking for Torino and for United, it strengthens the squad in a vital position and pushes Louis van Gaal a step closer to having the squad he wants to compete in all competitions next season.
