Robin van Persie wants to leave Manchester United because he feels ‘betrayed’ by Louis van Gaal, according to the Sun.

Van Persie looks to be on his way to Fenerbahce after both clubs reportedly agreed a fee of £4.7m for him.

The Dutchman is said to be unhappy with van Gaal, who reportedly refused to pick van Persie last season following some sub-par performances in training.

Van Persie has now agreed a four-year deal with Fenerbahce although interest from Atletico Madrid could hold up his transfer.

The striker wanted a regular starting place at United ahead of next summer’s European Championships in France but van Gaal could not guarantee him that.

United will need to replace van Persie and the club’s chief executive Ed Woodward is said to be looking at the likes of Thomas Muller and Edinson Cavani.

Van Gaal will be left with Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and James Wilson as his only recognised strikers once van Persie leaves so he will need to bring in a fresh face and quickly.
