Sergio Ramos returns to warm embrace with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez

Sergio Ramos’ breakdown in relationship with Real Madrid has revolved mainly around one person – their president Florentino Perez.

The Guardian’s Sid Lowe published a superb synopsis of the situation and explained, in detail, why their relationship fell by the wayside over time.

At one stage, it was thought Ramos and Perez had gone past the point of no return when it comes to amicable solutions but the duo were all smiles when they met for the first time in public this summer.

Ramos returned to Madrid after a break in Ibiza and there will now be a real focus on his future and whether or not he will stay on as Madrid’s vice-captain into next season.

Does Ramos still believe he is being forced out of Madrid by the club and its hierarchy?

Potentially, but he’ll do his utmost to keep a strong image on the surface in front of the press. After all, he knows the press inside out and is well aware of the impact that dodging a hug with Perez would have had on today’s front pages in Spain.

The big question remains: will he stay or will he go? Now that Ramos is back in Madrid, negotiations and discussions may accelerate and from United’s perspective, they couldn’t happen any sooner.
