Manchester United haven’t really had a reliable midfield for a few years now so fans have welcomed the news that the club will sign Bastian Schweinsteiger this summer.
The 30-year-old is the most successful German footballer ever having won practically everything there is to win with Bayern Munich and the national side.
No-one will know this better than Louis van Gaal, who established a good relationship with Schweinsteiger when he was in charge of Bayern between 2009 and 2011.
We asked our Twitter followers for their thoughts on what they think Schweinsteiger will bring to United’s midfield:
@PeoplesPerson_ massive impact with his winning mentality and the ability to read the game

@PeoplesPerson_ he would give us better leadership, experience, and a backbone to the team

@peoplesperson_ Alongside Carrick, it's easy to hector & dictate the opposition into submission. Top signing that is.

@PeoplesPerson_ midfield leadership that hasn't been seen since Roy Keane

@PeoplesPerson_ a powerful and dominating leader is not something we've seen in MUFC midfield for a while. He's also a serial winner!!

Schweinsteiger will be a fantastic signing for United but the hope for supporters is that his capture does not affect the club’s pursuit of Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin.
If United ended up with both players, it would send out a real statement of intent to the rest of the Premier League. United leave for the pre-season tour of the United States of America on Monday and the club will be hoping to conclude both deals by then.
