New Manchester United signing Matteo Darmian has revealed that it is a “dream come true” to join the club.
He joins on a four-year contract with the option to extend for a further year.
Darmian thanked Torino fans for their support while he was at the club but admitted he couldn’t turn down the opportunity to play at United.
“It is a dream come true to be joining Manchester United. I have loved the time that I have spent at Torino and I would like to thank the club and the fans for everything they have done for me,” he said.
“I am sure they can understand when the opportunity to join the biggest club in world came along it was something I had to do. To work with Louis van Gaal, a manager that has achieved so much in football is such an exciting prospect.”
Louis van Gaal’s side struggled defensively at points last season and Darmian will go a long way to shoring things up at the back.
The 25-year-old is a fantastic addition but it is important for United not to rest on their laurels, with a world-class centre-back also needed. Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, as has Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos.
