New Manchester United signing Memphis Depay has indicated that he could be the answer to the club’s striker problem next season.
Man United chose to let Radamel Falcao go at the end of last term, while Javier Hernandez and Robin van Persie are reportedly the subject of interest from Sevilla and Fenerbahce, respectively.
There have been rumours that United are in for a forward this summer as a result but Memphis stated that he wants to play up front.
“I’m excited about scoring goals and giving assists. I’m a striker,” Memphis said.
Memphis has made his name as a winger so his comments come as a surprise. However, when you think about it, it would make sense for him to play up top.
The Dutchman finished last season as the Eredivisie’s top scorer as he fired PSV Eindhoven to the league title. Louis van Gaal knows him well having worked with him with the Dutch national team at the 2014 World Cup and the experienced coach will have a clear plan for Memphis and what he wants from him next term.
