Bastian Schweinsteiger has sent a heartfelt goodbye message to Bayern Munich fans and explained that a drive to experience something new is behind his decision to join Manchester United.
The 30-year-old German midfielder will complete a move to Old Trafford this summer and end a 17 year period with the club where he spent all of his career.
Writing on his official Facebook page, Schweinsteiger said: “Dear Fans, after 17 incredible years at FC Bayern, 15 national titles, winning the historical triple and uncountable other highlights that I was fortunate enough to experience with my incredible team, all you exceptional fans and the co-workers at Säbener Straße and Allianz Arena, I have decided to take a new career step.
“This decision was very hard to make because you and FCB have, are and will always be an extremely important part of my life.
“Nevertheless, I would like to again gain experience at a new club. My destination is Manchester United. I hope you understand my decision. No one can take away the incredible journey we had together. #MiaSanMia ”
Schweinsteiger is a top class midfielder and although his injury problems in recent years are a worry, Louis van Gaal may very well have made one of the signings of the summer in bringing him to United.
The German midfielder is looking forward to the new experiences he’ll have at United and fans certainly can’t wait to see what he can bring to the team.
Hopefully at the end of next season he will be helping United celebrate after winning title number 21.
