The agent of Manchester United’s Victor Valdes has insisted the keeper wants to stay at Old Trafford despite interest from Turkish side Antalyaspor.
Valdes joined Man United in last season’s winter transfer window but has struggled to get in the starting XI ahead of David de Gea.
The former Barcelona man only made his debut against Arsenal in the penultimate game of the campaign after De Gea suffered an injury but impressed with his natural shot-stopping ability.
He has now been left out of United’s squad for the pre-season tour of the United States, adding to the speculation surrounding his future. but his agent Gines Carvajal, confirmed that the 33-year-old had received an offer from Antalyaspor but that he wants to stay at United.
“I’ve been contacted by a series of individuals from Turkey to negotiate a move for Victor,” Carvajal said.
“But I haven’t spoken with the president of the Turkish club in question. I don’t know him. I have no plans to talk with them again as my player has no interest in a move to Antalyaspor.
“His only wishes are to remain at Manchester United and he has another year left on his contract. We don’t see any reason for him to leave the club.
“United are among the top two or three best teams in the world. Victor is keen to fight for a place next season and wants to help the club as much as he can.”
De Gea has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer and there is a real possibility that Valdes will be asked to replace him in the starting XI next season if he does go. Even if he doesn’t, there should be more opportunities for Valdes to impress due to United’s involvement in the Champions League next term.
