Manchester United transfer news: Van Persie’s Fenerbahce move completed and Van Gaal looking to sign more

Here is the latest Manchester United transfer news and gossip.

Robin van Persie has officially completed his £4.7m move to Fenerbahce and ended his time at Old Trafford. It will be sad to see him leave given what he did in the 2012/13 season but it is the right move for both the club and himself.

Andy Mitten expects Man United to complete at least another two signings, a striker and a centre-back, and potentially another defender if David de Gea leaves for Real Madrid.

Having being told that Thomas Muller, Karim Benzema and Harry Kane are not for sale, Uruguayan international Edison Cavani has emerged as a potential target to replace the 31-year-old striker.

Paris Saint-Germian would like Angel Di Maria going the other way as the French club are reportedly interested but Louis van Gaal would prefer to make a straight cash offer of around £50m for Cavani.

United have also been linked with Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski but his agent has insisted that a bid in excess of €50m would be needed to get Bayern Munich to even consider the move.

Now onto the defensive issue. although Nicolas Otamendi has been scheduled to head back to training, it has been suggested he does not want to return to Valencia. Could he do what Marcos Rojo did last summer and refuse to play?
