From Spain: Nicolas Otamendi forcing his way out of Valencia

by Robbie Dunne

Nicolas Otamendi’s future is something Manchester United fans are keeping a close eye on and Marca in Spain are now reporting that he has made his decision to leave Valencia and is refusing to return to the club.

Otamendi has been linked to Manchester United all summer and the centre-back is due back to Valencia training on 26 July but the club remain firm on their valuation of the player, which is the only reason he hasn’t left already.

The Argentinian has a €50 million buy-out clause and while former President Amadeo Salvo has left his position, the new President Lay Hoon feels the same way about the figure wanted for the player and will not deviate.

Marca point out that Otamendi has made it clear he wants out and done everything within his power to get a transfer.

Man United fans will be all too aware that Marcos Rojo adopted similar tactics last summer to help push through his move to Old Trafford.

The centre-back left Valencia after defeating Almeria on the final day of the season and took a flight to Buenos Aires to meet up with the rest of the Argentinian squad to take part in the Copa America.

Marca believe this was the same day that Otamendi let his intentions known and “dropped the bomb” on the club. He publicly stated he wanted to leave for another European club with a better contract, which was explained by his agent.

Otamendi is exactly what United are looking for in the centre of their defence and with Ed Woodward currently in spending mode having purchased Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinstieger and Morgan Schneiderlin it seems as though the Otamendi deal might be ready to happen.

With the Sergio Ramos saga remaining at an impasse, Otamendi appears to be the better, younger option and with the Argentinian clearly stating his preference for a move, the time is now to make the move.
