There were lots of photos of Bastian Schweinsteiger yesterday following his announcement as a Manchester United player but we had one stand-out favourite.
Waiting in the airport lounge before embarking on their pre-season US Tour, Schweinsteiger sat down to chat with Ryan Giggs and it makes you realise just how much of an icon United have signed.
Between them, Giggs and Schweinsteiger have a total of 57 trophies. From a World Cup to multiple Champions League’s and countless league titles, they have won almost everything football has to offer and are rightfully considered icons by United and Bayern Munich respectively.
It’s just a great photo for the story it tells and it perfectly sums up Schweinsteiger’s comments that he loved the tradition of the club. In Giggs, he has a living piece of history he can talk to and learn all about it.
Schweinsteiger and Giggs, together, as part of United. Nobody would have ever thought it was possible in their wildest dreams but Louis van Gaal has helped make it happen.
Now, if the 30-year-old midfielder can have half as much impact and influence for United in the next few years that he had at Bayern, he could very well be adding to his own trophy haul sooner rather than later.
