Edinson Cavani back on Manchester United’s radar this summer

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United have identified Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani as a replacement for Robin van Persie, according to The Guardian’s Jamie Jackson.

Robin van Persie has completed a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce which leaves Wayne Rooney, James Wilson and Javier Hernandez as the only recognised strikers at Old Trafford.

As such, rumours linking Cavani with United once again have started to pop up. Jackson says United have been interested in Cavani for a while and Louis van Gaal is open to the idea of letting Di Maria go the other way.

It is safe to say that United fans, on the whole, would be against the deal. Di Maria is a world-class talent who United made their club record signing just last summer but Cavani’s lack of consistent goals places question marks over his ability.

Ever since Cavani moved from Napoli to PSG, he seems to have lost his killer instinct but if United are going to sign a big striker to fill the gap left behind by Van Persie, they need a more established, consistent goalscorer in one of Europe’s best balls.

It’s a tough and interesting question to ask United fans: What striker should replace Van Persie at Old Trafford? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
