Nicolas Otamendi’s agent is set to fly to Manchester with Jorge Mendes to finalise a deal with either Manchester United or Manchester City in the next week, according to AS.
The player’s agent, Eugenio Lopez, will reportedly fly to Porto first to discuss personal terms with the player before jetting off to Manchester to push a move through to one of the two clubs mentioned.
Valencia have resigned themselves to losing the player but will not settle for less than the €50m buyout clause stated in the Argentinian’s contract.
The report also claims that Otamendi’s replacement has been lined up in Ezequiel Garay. The Argentine is represented by Jorge Mendes and one of the terms of Valencia selling Otamendi is that Garay will replace him.
Lopez had hoped to close a deal this week but will definitely try to push a deal through before the end of next week and the idea is that Otamendi will not have to travel back to Valencia at all this summer.
Man United have a far greater need at centre-half than City but they might be feeling a little unsure after such a poor season by their captain Vincent Kompany and record signing Elequiam Mangala.
Otamendi was the best defender in La Liga last season and feels as though he deserves a move to a bigger club. By the sounds of things, Mendes and Lopez are going to make sure it happens.
Valencia appear as though they will demand that the buyout fee is paid but if Otamendi remains firm in his stance, they may be forced to reconsider their valuation and drop the price. Either way, a deal looks close and Manchester appears to be the most likely destination of the player.
