Luke Shaw excited for Club America game after ‘unreal’ training sessions

Luke Shaw can’t wait to get Manchester United’s pre-season tour underway with Friday night’s game against Club America.

The 19-year-old’s pre-season got started a lot earlier than most because Louis van Gaal‘s staff put him on a special fitness program in order to improve his condition ahead of the US tour.

It paid off as Shaw lost weight this summer and went over to USA looking in the best condition he has been in since joining United, so he’s put himself in the best position to impress Van Gaal.

Last season, Shaw would have been very frustrated with how his debut year went and so playing well on this pre-season tour is crucial to give him confidence ahead of the game against Tottenham Hotspur.

There’s plenty of reasons to be excited about next season but one thing in particular is the partnership of Shaw and Memphis on the left-wing.

Both players have pace to burn and together they have the potential to become a fantastic partnership on the left wing. Combining Shaw’s overlapping runs with Depay’s sheer power could cause defences real problems.

Shaw arrived at United with a big price-tag hanging over his head and was never able to justify that during the year thanks to a succession of injuries, so fans will certainly be hoping to see more of the Shaw from Southampton next season.
