Real Madrid fans are used to getting what they want. Like the daughter of a billionaire, the world has usually been their oyster and players were there for the taking whenever they wanted.
So, when Ed Woodward put a fence up, wagged his finger in Florentino Perez’s face and told him to cough up a world record fee for David de Gea or they were not going to sign him, he went off in a hump.
Now, in the latest development in this on-going saga, Real Madrid have announced the signing of Espanyol goalkeeper Kiko Casilla in what looks like the Spanish club potentially conceding defeat over De Gea for the time being.
Usually when a new player is signed, fans are delighted. Not Real Madrid fans. They only had one goalkeeper on their mind and we’ll give you a clue – it wasn’t Casilla:

@realmadriden really? Casillas for Casilla? Is this a joke?

If this is the last development this summer in Real Madrid’s goalkeeping department, it means they would have sold one of their best ever players in Iker Casillas to replace him with a goalkeeper they sold back in 2007 because they didn’t think he was good enough. That will go down well with Real Madrid fans won’t it?
United have done superbly up until this point to stay in control of negotiations over De Gea’s future and the ball is firmly in Ed Woodward’s court now that Real Madrid have signed a new goalkeeper. Game on.
