Bastian Schweinsteiger says Bayern Munich is a big club but Manchester United are bigger

by Sam Peoples

Bastian Schweinsteiger has endeared himself to Manchester United fans even more after saying United are a bigger club than Bayern Munich.

Having spent 17 years at Bayern, Schweinsteiger made the move to Old Trafford this summer and has already been an instant hit with the fans by the way he discusses the move and the club.

When it comes to global support around the world, Man United are almost unrivalled and that’s something which Schweinsteiger has clearly noticed straight away having only been at the club for a few weeks.

Speaking out on United’s US Tour this week, Schweinsteiger said: “I cannot guarantee titles but I will guarantee that we will do everything to be successful in the season. I want to make a positive impact. I think I can contribute a lot to the team.

“United are the biggest club in the world and I am sure this team has the quality to win titles. United are more popular around the world. There is a difference and I could see that.

“Bayern Munich is a big club but Manchester United is bigger. When we were in China people knew us but Bayern were not so big in America.”

It already feels like Schweinsteiger has been at the club for a couple of years because he has slotted in so naturally and that’s a testament to how he was as a professional at Bayern Munich for so long.

Fans have taken quickly to Schweinsteiger because of how he presents himself and hopefully it shouldn’t be too long before his performances start doing the majority of the talking on the pitch.
