The 24-year-old has been caught up in a transfer saga all summer as Real Madrid have continuously been heavily linked with a move for the player.
De Gea is currently part of United’s pre-season tour which surprised quite a few fans but it’s great to see him still at the squad. By this points, lots expected him to have already been sold.
Contrary to those reports, Van Gaal was quick to shut down any talk of a transfer.
“I cannot say anything. His attitude is fantastic. It is stupid to ask,” he said.
Rarely has a transfer window ever revolved around a goalkeeper as much as this summer.
Iker Casillas’ departure from Real Madrid was supposed to open the door for De Gea but with the United shot-stopper now in Seattle with his team-mates and United continuing to play hardball, it appears that the transfer is further away than ever.
United might be wise to allow De Gea’s contract run down and let him leave next summer as this year is a make or break year for both the management and the players within the squad.
With De Gea as the last line of defence, you get a sense that the team could be contenders but with the identity of United’s goalkeeper unclear with De Gea out of the picture, that all changes.
