Louis van Gaal could offer little to kill the rumours surrounding Angel di Maria’s future when asked Manchester United at the club’s first press conference in the United States.
The Argentinian has been linked with a host of clubs this summer and according to the French media a move to Paris Saint-Germain is on the horizon and nearing completion.
Di Maria is currently on an extended holiday and nursing a reported hamstring tear having competed with his country at the Copa America.
Speaking at the press conference, Van Gaal was asked about Di Maria and responded honestly.
“We shall see,” he said.
“In football, it is a process. It’s a process for Di Maria and Man Utd. We shall see. But he is still a member of United and he said he will come out on July 25th.”
Some reports suggest that Di Maria is on his way out of United and Van Gaal’s comments don’t do much to fill United fans with optimism.
Di Maria was nowhere near his best in his first season at United, despite a strong start, as he struggled to adapt to life in Manchester and had some niggling injuries that really slowed him down.
The hope was that he would recover over the summer and come back to United with a better sense of what the Premier League was about and clear as to what his role was within the team.
At this time, that appears to be up in the air but with Di Maria flying out to the pre-season tour on July 25, he’ll at least have to return to join up with his United team-mates.
