The midfielder came on at half-time and almost made an immediate impact but his fizzing shot went just wide of the post.
It set the tone for a bright and encouraging display as Pereira regularly beat his man using a variety of body feints and sharp turns.
However, it is important to remember that the club has some real talent already coming through in Pereira.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a fine U20 World Cup with Brazil earlier in the summer, scoring in the final, although he couldn’t prevent a 2-1 loss to Serbia.
Along with the likes of Memphis, Luke Shaw and James Wilson, United’s tradition of giving young players opportunities is alive and well. Pereira will be looking to make an impact under the guidance of Louis van Gaal next term.
