Matteo Darmian enjoyed a solid debut for Manchester United against Club America this weekend.
Starting at right-back after a minor injury to Antonio Valencia, Darmian looked at home and slotted straight into Man United’s back four. Despite it being his first game at United, the 25-year-old was defensively sound and didn’t put a foot wrong.
Darmian ventured forward on occasion too and proved his worth with the ball at his feet. His positioning and composure in possession has gotten United fans excited to see what he can bring to the team next term.
Darmian has only been at United for a week but the Italian played as if he had been at the club for years and he didn’t show any signs of being overawed by the occasion. Here’s what United fans had to say about Darmian:
Loving how far up the pitch Darmian is and how much support he is offering on the right.

Great supporting overlap runs by both Shaw and Darmian in all of the first half. Not neglecting defence either.

You can see the potential in Depay but some poor decision making. Schneiderlin and Darmian are the ones who've impressed me most!

Darmian will be hoping that the team’s pre-season tour is the start of a long and successful career at United. Having impressed early on, the full-back will now be looking to solidify his place in Louis Van Gaal‘s starting line up.
