Manchester United ready to trigger £22m release clause of Barcelona’s Pedro

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United are ready to pay the full £22m release clause of Barcelona winger and bring him to Old Trafford.

Both The Telegraph and The Guardian report that both Liverpool and Chelsea are interested in signing the 27-year-old but Pedro would prefer a move to Man United because of the Spanish presence with David de Gea, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata at the club.

The arrival of Memphis Depay means United have already strengthened their wide options in the current transfer window but it hasn’t stopped us being linked with Pedro.

What do we make of these reports? Well, first and foremost there is an immediate question to be raised about Angel di Maria’s future at the club if Pedro were to be signed this summer.

Would Pedro simply be signed as another winger to compliment Di Maria or is a potential arrival of the Barcelona winger a sign that the Argentinian’s future lies away from Old Trafford? We fear it would be the latter.

In his pomp, Pedro was one of the most underrated players in a Barcelona side which dominated European football for years but since the arrival of Luis Suarez, he has been pushed to the side so you can understand if he wants to leave the Spanish champions.

However, as we’ve pointed out, any move for Pedro may well be bad news for Di Maria and his future. That being said, United don’t particularly have many options down the right wing, so could any move for Pedro be completely separate from Di Maria’s future? We’ll see how this one develops.
