Memphis Depay has exuded confidence ever since a deal was announced that Manchester United had signed him from PSV.
The 21-year-old’s self-confidence is so high that some may call it arrogance and he has done nothing but put pressure on himself since joining back in June, but he looks like he’s thriving on it.
Like a plant gasping for the sun, Depay’s growth comes from expectations he places upon himself. He strives to better and is driven by an overwhelming desire to get to the top.
It’s an approach which has got him this far in his career and when he steps out tonight in a Man United shirt, he’ll have taken a major step forward towards his ultimate goal of becoming one of the best players in the world.

When Nick Powell arrived at United, Rio Ferdinand said he immediately looked like he belonged at the club. He walked with broad shoulders at Carrington, head held high and never looked overawed by the occasion.
Memphis carries that same attitude. He doesn’t feel he is lucky to be a United player, he feels he deserves to be a United player and that difference in approach can make all the difference when it comes to a new player settling in.
Of course, Memphis’ confident approach sets him up for a fall if he doesn’t succeed but you just get the feeling that he’ll deliver, and deliver well. Here’s hoping he can enjoy a strong debut and get off to the right start.
