De Gea finished last season with a minor injury against Arsenal and Valencia also underwent surgery to remove pins in his ankle from when he previously suffered a horror injury against Arsenal, but these injuries are unrelated.
Van Gaal told MUTV that both injuries have been picked up during training this week and at this stage it isn’t known whether either player will be in contention for the next pre-season game.
An injury to De Gea means Sam Johnstone was given an opportunity in goal but United fans will want to see the Spanish No.1 back between the sticks during this pre-season.

As for Valencia, his role as United’s first choice right-back has now changed after the signing of Matteo Darmian and he’ll now become a squad player rather than a regular starter.
However, the last thing United need this season is a swathe of continuous injuries so hopefully these are just a few speedbumps at the start of pre-season, rather than an indication of what is to come.
