Manchester United midfield duo Ben Pearson and Joe Rothwell have joined Barnsley on a six-month loan deal until January.
The club has confirmed both players have completed their move and they immediately went into a Barnsley side who took part in a testimonial yesterday.
Pearson spent time on loan at Barnsley last season in his first spell away from the club while Rothwell spent time at Championship side Blackpool, although that was a far from fruitful period for the youngster.
While it is good for both players to go out and gain experience on loan, questions have to be raised over their long term futures at United.
Having excelled at Barnsley last season on loan, it would have been good to see Pearson sent out on loan to a Championship side rather than a League One team and as for Rothwell, technically it is a step down for him as he was at Blackpool previously.
That being said, Rothwell is looking forward to the move.
“I’m really excited to be here,” said Joe.
“I’ve heard a lot about the place from Ben Pearson. He couldn’t speak highly enough of his time here and I just can’t wait to get going.
“I had no hesitations about coming here after speaking with Lee Johnson. The Club almost made the Play-Offs with Ben here last season so, hopefully, we can go one better this time.”
Regardless of that, it is still good for both players to be out playing regular first-team football so in that sense any loan deal is a positive.
