Manchester United edge towards Sergio Romero signing – report

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United are edging towards completing a move for Argentinian keeper Sergio Romero, according to the Guardian.

Romero will replace Victor Valdes at Man United after Louis van Gaal confirmed he will be sold following a falling out.

Roma are also keen on Romero, who is currently a free agent having left Sampdoria this summer, but United are confident of securing his signature.

The Argentinian will be expected to be the No.2 goalkeeper at Old Trafford even if David de Gea leaves for Real Madrid.

Instead, United will target Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen if De Gea does end up leaving the club.

Van Gaal has shown his ruthless streak in recent days, with Valdes and Robin van Persie both being told they are no longer needed at United.

Although some supporters may see his treatment of the duo as harsh, it is good to see him putting the needs of the team first. All great managers need to make difficult decisions if they are to be successful, as Sir Alex Ferguson often showcased during his time in charge of United.
