Manchester United will present a formal offer to Valencia for Nicolas Otamendi this week after holding talks with the player over the weekend, according to SuperDeporte.
Otamendi has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford for a number of weeks and it looks like the club are finally firming up their interest.
However, they will face competition from Manchester City, who also held a meeting with the Argentinian on Saturday.
The report claims that both clubs have offered Otamendi contracts worth between €3.5m and €4m a season.
Further talks will now take place on Tuesday to discuss concrete offers for Otamendi.
Otamendi was widely considered to be one of the best centre-backs in La Liga last season and his signing would be a major coup for United.
Louis van Gaal’s side are crying out for a dominant defender and the 27-year-old would go a long way to providing that. With Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Chelsea also said to be interested in Otamendi, United will need to act quickly if they are to secure his signature.
