However, Man United’s Paddy Crerand believes fans are in for a big shock within the next 10 days in terms of the arrival of a new striker.
Does Crerand know something we don’t? Either way, few people really believe that Louis van Gaal is happy to go into the new season with Wayne Rooney, James Wilson and Javier Hernandez as his strike-force.
With so much investment going into other areas of the squad to fix weaknesses, it would be a major oversight to not bring in a new striker.

The big problem is player availability. Thomas Muller would be a dream signing, and reports from Germany tonight suggest a huge bid has gone in for him, but it would be a big surprise to see Bayern Munich let another star player join United, while the likes of Karim Benzema and Alexandre Lacazette have also been named as potential options.
United have spent very well in the transfer window so far and strengthened the squad in key areas but it would a somewhat pointless exercise to not apply the same logic to defence and attack in the same vein.
There is almost an expectation among fans for a new striker and a centre-back to be signed but that is based purely on the fact that such good signings have already been brought in.
If United are seriously going to compete on all fronts next season, then some more signings are needed and the club certainly has the money to make them happen.
