Louis van Gaal’s revelation that Manchester United are closing in on a ‘surprise’ striker has got tongues wagging at Old Trafford.
According to van Gaal, the media haven’t “written” about the forward so Man United’s fanbase have been scratching their heads trying to figure out who it is.
Thomas Muller and Pedro have both been the subject of a number of rumours lately, which would appear to rule them out.
We asked our Twitter followers for their thoughts on who the striker may be:

It’s safe to say that no-one really has an inkling as to who the player might be, which is exciting and terrifying in equal measure.
The striker could be a world-class, star name such as Cristiano Ronaldo, with van Gaal and Ed Woodward subsequently being heralded as geniuses.
However, he could also be a relatively unknown, unproven player who will need time to develop. In any case, it is important to get someone in to help Wayne Rooney up top next term.
