Luke Shaw explains how he convinced Morgan Schneiderlin to join Manchester United

Luke Shaw has explained how he helped to convince Morgan Schneiderlin join Manchester United.

Schneiderlin became Man United’s third summer signing this summer in a frantic 24 hours which also saw the club sign Bastian Schweinsteiger and made his debut against Club America at the weekend.

The French midfielder had plenty of clubs who were interested in signing him including Arsenal but he chose to join Shaw at United, much to the delight of fans given how impressive he has been for Southampton over the last two years.

Shaw was believed to be important in helping bring Schneiderlin to Old Trafford and the 20-year-old has admitted he told him everything he could to make him realise United was the right club to join.

He said: “I know Morgan really well from Southampton and it is nice to see him here. We are a good bunch of lads here and we welcome people really easily, so I hope they [Schneiderlin and Depay] are enjoying and looking forward to the games too.

“I spoke to him [Schneiderlin] about the club beforehand but every player knows what Manchester United is about. I made sure I told him everything about it and how much he would love it. I think he has made the right decision to come to Manchester United and I am sure he will prove everything right.”

Both players were part of an impressive Southampton side that finished eighth in the Premier League in 2013, a season which prompted United to complete the signing of Shaw the same summer.

Despite huge changes at St Mary’s last year, Schneiderlin experienced an outstanding season where he contributed four goals and played a major role in their brilliant defensive displays, having only conceded 33 goals all season.

United fans certainly hope they can strike up the same sort of partnership at United as they had at Southampton and with Shaw coming into this season off the back of extra fitness training, he’ll be raring to go, as will new signing Schneiderlin.

If United are to challenge on all fronts next term, a strong footballing understanding between the pair could be crucial in United bridging the gap between them and their rivals, something that was all too obvious at times last year.
